Xabi Alonso to change Arda Güler’s position at Real Madrid

Incoming Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is planning to make use of the talents of Arda Güler in a deeper role next season and beyond.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have on Monday provided an insight into the situation.

Güler will of course imminently see the competition for places in the attacking midfield role at Real Madrid increase yet further.

This comes with Los Blancos having tied up a deal for River Plate sensation Franco Mastantuono.

With the two players boasting similar profiles – technically elite, left-footed and with a creative flair – fans of Güler, in turn, may have been concerned when it comes to the Turk’s prospects in Spain’s capital moving forward.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, such fans need not fret.

As per a report from AS, after Güler impressed in fleeting minutes in the role last season:

‘The club’s strategy is to continue converting Güler into a (deeper) midfielder, a playmaker with precision from set pieces thanks to his excellent shot.’
