Looking to add to their ranks after a Premier League-winning season under Arne Slot, Liverpool are poised to complete the signing of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany world-beater Florian Wirtz – and the 22-year-old’s potential wage has been revealed.
Slot, in 2024/25, became the fifth manager in Premier League history to win the title in their maiden season – but the Dutchman is not finished there, and he believes that Wirtz, a 30-cap Germany international, could make them an even stonger outfit.
It took a lot of guts – and plenty of financial power – to fend off competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, but their mammoth opening offer of £109 million was ultimately rejected by his Bundesliga employers.

Bayer Leverkusen holding out for £127m transfer fee
The Premier League giants have been working relentlessly to secure the services of the sought-after Wirtz – widely regarded as one of the best players in world football – but Die Werkself, now managed by Erik ten Hag, are holding out for £127m.
In good news for the Anfield faithful, a report from German publication BILD has insisted that a five-year deal – until the summer of 2030 – is close to being agreed between all relevant parties.
Not only that, but his eye-watering, weekly take-home has also been revealed. Wirtz, should his inevitable move to Anfield come to fruition in the next week or so, will reportedly be pocketing a whopping £355,000-per-week on the red half of Merseyside.
To put that into perspective: that would be more than what captain and club legend Virgil van Dijk earns. At the time of writing, the Dutch defender is on £350,000-per-week, while Mohamed Salah – expectedly – remains the club’s highest-earning player on £400,000.
Wirtz would become Liverpool’s second-highest-earner should everything all go to plan for Slot, one of world football’s best managers, and his entourage this summer. Though talks are reportedly ongoing, an agreement between the two parties is optimistically certain.

Liverpool have drawn praise in recent years for their strong fiscal discipline.
Throughout the 2024/25 campaign alone, Wirtz plundered 31 goal involvements (16 goals and 15 assists) in 45 outings, proving that he has what it takes to influence proceedings in the final third. He would also provide the Reds with elite passing quality.
Pulheim born, the tricky attacking midfielder came through FC Koln’s academy ranks before being spotted by German side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020 – the rest, well, is history as he spearheaded his side’s Bundesliga-winning side in 2023/24.
