Speaking with Kicker, BVB Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl emphasizes patience when it comes to giving veteran Mats Hummels a contract past 2023:
“We have a relationship of trust that has grown over the years and we all agree that we are very relaxed about this contract situation – Mats in particular wants to show everyone again how good and important he can still be.”
Hummels is one of the higher earners at Dortmund and is currently ahead of Niklas Sule on the depth chart. An extension will clearly be determined on his performances this season, as the 33-year-old is nearing the end of his career.
