‘Feel Like Kicking Him’ – Alexis Mac Allister Names Most Annoying Premier League Player

Since moving from Brighton & Hove Albion and joining Liverpool in the summer of 2023, there’s a compelling case that Alexis Mac Allister has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League – and he once revealed which player in England winds him up the most and that he ‘feels like kicking’.

It’s not taken long for the Argentine to be loved on Merseyside. Albeit only from those in the red half, there’s a certain respect for the energetic midfielder and what he’s been able to provide after two seasons of action under Jurgen Klopp and now Arne Slot.

Crucial to the aforementioned Slot winning the title in his maiden campaign at the helm, the 2022 World Cup winner featured just shy of 50 times for the Dutchman across all competitions – and he’s come across a plethora of tricky players in that timeframe.

Mac Allister Named Premier League Player He ‘Feels Like Kicking’

‘But even when you do, he gets right back up’

Think Jeremy Doku of Manchester City or Chelsea’s go-to man, Cole Palmer, two players whom it is awfully difficult winning possession from. Of course, as is the high-octane nature of the English top tier, you can guarantee there are a handful of players that combine pace and power to one-up their opponents.

However, in a recent interview, Mac Allister – regarded as one of the best midfielders in world football – insisted that there is one rival player who winds up more than anyone else. And that is none other than Manchester City and England outcast Jack Grealish.

Hitting out at the wide man for his provocative nature on the pitch, Mac Allister – who has played against the Englishman on four occasions – insinuated that he’s similar to a wind-up merchant, while admitting that he enjoys kicking him. According to a report from The Mirror, he said:

“Grealish – you feel like kicking him. But even when you do, he gets right back up. And somehow, that makes you feel like you’re winning.”

From his days spent at boyhood club Aston Villa, Grealish carried a sense of flair and excitement. In Manchester, that has waned ever so slightly – but he’s always been renowned for picking up easy fouls with his quick feet and trickery on the left wing.

So much so that his style of play led former Manchester United captain-turned-pundit Roy Keane to compare him to Olympic legend Tom Daley. In 2023, when Grealish won a penalty for his current employers against Villa, per the Daily Express, Keane said:

“We’re saying Jack is more like Tom Daley, but I think it is a penalty, and it’s clever from Jack. He gets his body across and like Gary [Neville] said in commentary, he knows exactly what he’s doing.”

As alluded to, the two have met on four occasions: first, while Mac Allister was playing for Brighton; Grealish was on Villa’s books. Interestingly, the former’s first win over the latter came in the 2024/25 season in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City.
