La Liga giants Barcelona are locked in a transfer battle with Newcastle United, over a key summer target.
That’s according to journalist Xavi Espinosa, who points towards Joan García as the player in question.
The name of goalkeeper Joan has of course dominated the headlines across Spain over the course of the last couple of weeks.
This comes amid mounting interest in the signature of the 24-year-old, fresh off a spectacular campaign on the books of Espanyol.
To date, Barcelona have been the club most heavily linked with a move for Joan, amid an ongoing search on the part of the Blaugrana for reinforcements between the posts.
And if the latest update on the situation to have surfaced in the media on Wednesday is anything to go by, the contenders to land Espanyol’s no.1 are now down to just Barca, and one other club.
As per the aformentioned Xavi Espinosa, with Manchester City focusing their attentions on Porto’s Diogo Costa:
‘Joan García update: Newcastle or Barça. He’s been ruled out by Manchester City, and the player has already made his decision; it’s a matter of two destinations. They’re the options that best suit him.’
