La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Sunday announced the latest installment on the club’s bench, in the form of Xabi Alonso.
The name of tactician Alonso has of course dominated the headlines in Spain over recent weeks.
This comes after the former midfielder finally made official his decision to depart Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.
As much came with a view to linking up with the aforementioned Real Madrid, where Alonso was long tipped to replace the outbound Carlo Ancelotti.
After Los Blancos brought their campaign to an end on Saturday courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad, Ancelotti bid his final farewell to the Santiago Bernabéu.
And as alluded to above, less than 24 hours on, his replacement has been confirmed.
As per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms on Sunday:
‘Real Madrid CF announces that Xabi Alonso will be Real Madrid’s manager for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028.’
