Rayan Cherki may have played his last game for Lyon last night, as he has announced a potential departure in the summer transfer window (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
Cherki was in tears following the final Ligue 1 game of the season against Angers, expressing his gratitude towards his teammates, coach, supporters and club president.
Speculation has been mounting on Cherki’s future for weeks, with a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Lyon for €22.5 million this summer.
The 21-year-old has made 185 first-team appearances. He has registered phenomenal numbers this term, bagging 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions.
His outstanding run in the Europa League also saw him grow in stature as one of the top-rated youngsters in Europe.
Besides being prolific in front of goal, he also boasts excellent playmaking abilities.
Cherki’s demand has soared in the transfer market, attracting interest from top European clubs.
Although Paris Saint-Germain have backed out of the transfer race, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are keen on signing him.
Man Utd are eyeing more reinforcements as part of a major overhaul this summer after enduring a turbulent 2024/25 season.
Cherki has been identified as a top target to bring more creativity and lethality to the Red Devils’ lame attack.
Spurs have also hit new lows this season and are aiming to bounce back stronger by building a formidable squad in the transfer window.
A top-class winger is a priority, and Cherki has the potential to transform the Lilywhites’ attack.
Liverpool have been monitoring Cherki for a long time, and he could be moulded into a long-term successor for Mohamed Salah.
