German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann will have to do without one of his top recent performers in the coming UEFA Nations League Finals. Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst – already ruled out for the final Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg – will actually be unavailable for several months after undergoing knee surgery. Kleindienst incurred the injury against Bayern last matchday.
This was confirmed by Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus in the mixed zone after the match. The BMG personnel chief noted that the operation will take place next week. Gladbach – known to be on the hunt for additional attacking assistance this summer – will almost certainly have to do without their leading goal-scorer at the beginning of next season. The search for more center forwards takes on more urgency.
Kleindienst scored 16 goals and registered 9 assists in his inaugural season with the Niederrheiner. Capped for the very first time at senior level at the age of 29 this past October, Kleindienst has scored four goals in six appearances for Nagelsmann’s Nationalmannschaft.
