ormer Newcastle United and Dutch national team start Jetro Willems is once again a free-agent after second tier SpVgg Greuther Fürth released the 28-year-old from his contract on Tuesday evening. Willems was brought in by the recently relegated Kleeblätter on a free last August with hopes that he could help them maintain the class.
The one-time Eintracht Frankfurt starter, who had celebrated Frankfurt’s sensational win over Bayern in the 2017/18 DFB Pokal final, made a total of 24 appearances for Fürth last year and and the beginning of this season in the second division. He scored one goal. At present, there is no information as to whether any other club is specifically interested in the former €10 million valued player.

Willems’ current estimated market value is one-tenth of what it was during his peak years with PSV Eindhoven. SpVgg sporting director Rachid Azzouzi released some comments upon the announcement of the move wishing Willems all the best in his future endeavors. Willems himself thanked the club supporters for a “special year”.
