Jake Paul is on the cusp of achieving something that his haters never thought possible.
The internet sensation returns to ring under his brand Most Valuable Promotions’s umbrella, in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions — one of the prominent forces in the American boxing business — for a landmark fight event on Saturday, the 28th of June, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, live on DAZN pay-per-view.
While Paul fights the former middleweight boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the co-main event, headliners Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez takes on Yuniel Dorticos in a cruiserweight world title fight.
Should Paul secure a victory over Chavez, then it likely sets up something that very few people — outside Paul and his business partner Nikisa Bidarian — even thought possible when the fledgling boxer started his pro career during the early days of COVID.

Jake Paul Hunts World Championship Shot
If Paul and Ramirez win their respective fights, they’ll likely box one another later in the year
To date, Paul has only beaten three boxers — and of the one who had a name, Mike Tyson, there was a 31-year age gap. Outside of that, Paul has mostly feasted on MMA fighters like Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Anderson Silva. To say it’s an unconventional route to the top of the sport is an understatement. Regardless, Paul has become one of the faces for the sport in the United States.
As he’s a money fight, and has broadcast contacts at Netflix and DAZN, he has the power to make big bouts happen. And, for him, there may be nothing bigger than a legitimate world championship shot — something critics of his said would never happen when he first burst onto the scene, proclaiming he’d fight Conor McGregor, and win a belt, back in 2020.
Fast forward five years, and it may come to fruition providing he beats Chavez next month.
“I’ve always said that I’ll fight really tough people and fight big money fights,” said Paul in a statement sent to GIVEMESPORT. “This is prize fighting, so I’m giving the fans what they want with every single fight by taking on tougher opponents.”
He also said it’s “100%” possible that he challenges Ramirez for his cruiserweight world championship, providing he beats Chavez, and Ramirez defeats Dorticos.
“This is what I came here to do: to become world champion and create one of the greatest sports stories the world has ever seen.”
He continued: “Going from Disney Channel to YouTube to world champion in six to seven years? That’s the most relatable and best sports story that any kid can get behind. I’m here to inspire the next generation and do what no one has ever done before in the world’s hardest sport, and that is boxing.”

Ramirez, meanwhile, is open to the fight. “He’s been doing a great job. He has a good challenge, but if he wants the belt, maybe one day. He has to pass the test first.”
That test may well come from Chavez Jr., who called Paul “crazy” and “overrated.”
“He hasn’t fought anybody in his life … This is an interesting fight. It might not be easy, but I’m going to do the best I can to be the best person I am, but I think I’m going to take him.”
“He’s never fought anybody like me.”
“Mike Tyson wasn’t even a fighter,” Chavez added. “He doesn’t know what he’s going to see or what to expect because he’s never seen it before. In boxing, you learn step by step, and he’s missing many.”
