Man Utd Make Contact to Sign ‘One of the Most Promising Centre-Backs’

Manchester United are showing interest in Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo ahead of the summer transfer window, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed.

The Red Devils have reportedly made a direct enquiry about a potential move for the 20-year-old in recent months and are keeping close tabs on his development in Serie A.

Comuzzo has no shortage of suitors across Europe amid his breakout campaign at Fiorentina, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and Napoli all credited with strong admiration for the Italian defender.

Fiorentina will be in a strong negotiating position if any interested clubs come calling, having tied the 20-year-old to a new four-year deal last year.

According to Bailey, scouts across Europe are viewing Comuzzo as one of the most promising central defenders of his generation.

His ability to play out from the back, as well as excellent positioning and anticipation, has drawn comparisons to Tottenham defender Cristian Romero, while Comuzzo himself is a known admirer of Leonardo Bonucci and Virgil van Dijk.

The ‘incredible’ 20-year-old has been a regular in Fiorentina’s first XI this season, making 41 appearances across all competitions, 30 of which were starts.

He also earned a call-up to the senior Italy squad last year, but has yet to make his debut for the Azzurri, despite making the bench four times in the Nations League.

Man United are expected to sign a new centre-back for Ruben Amorim this offseason, as Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans’ contracts are expiring.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are working behind the scenes on their potential defensive options after receiving a special request from Amorim.
