Following the conclusion of Saturday night’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and William Scull, which the Mexican won via unanimous decision, Turki Alalshikh officially announced that UFC president Dana White will be promoting the huge, highly anticipated showdown between Canelo and Terence Crawford, which will be taking place in September. This will be the first fight and event which will be promoted by White as he embarks on his very first venture into the world of boxing alongside the Saudi financier to form their very own boxing league under the TKO banner.
A lot has been made about the UFC boss making his way over to boxing, and while there is, of course, a lot of optimism and excitement around White’s arrival in boxing, naturally, he has also been met with doubters. One man who isn’t doubting White at all ahead of his venture into boxing is Mike Tyson, who was quizzed about the UFC president’s impending move to boxing during a recent episode of 10 Burning Questions with Sports Illustrated.

The UFC boss will promote the huge Canelo vs Crawford fight in September
Ever since we got the announcement that Saudi boxing financier Turki Alalshikh and UFC president Dana White were going to be joining forces to create a huge and brand-new boxing league, combat sports fans all around the world have been eagerly waiting for details about the promotion, specifically when the first event will be. On Saturday night, following the conclusion of Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull, Alalshikh revealed that the huge September showdown between Canelo and Terence Crawford will be promoted by White for the debut of TKO Boxing.
Now that details about TKO Boxing are now starting to emerge, many combat sports fans, analysts and experts have put their opinions and takes forward on how they think White will do in his boxing venture, and while there is a lot of excitement around the UFC boss’ arrival into the sport, there is also some scepticism. One man who is not doubting White at all is heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson, who has backed his friend to be successful.
‘Iron’ said the following during a recent video for Sports Illustrated:
“I think he’s going to do a good job. He’s not going to let the boxers take advantage of him.”
Most of the questions about how White will end up doing in boxing aren’t down to his promotional abilities, because he has shown over the years through his success with the UFC that he is a skilled fight seller, but more down to how he will handle the workload. White is going to be the main man running TKO Boxing, however, at least for now, it looks like he is going to keep his status as UFC president and CEO. White has been eager to enter the world of boxing for years now, and now that he finally has a significant place in the sport, could he slowly be moving out of the MMA world?
