Augsburg have tonight announced the departure of US international forward, and club record signing, Ricardo Pepi (19) on loan to Eredivisie side Groningen for the 2022/23 season.
“I’m grateful that the management at Augsburg were able to grant my request for a move on short notice. At my age, it is especially important to get as much game time as possible in order to continue to develop,” said Pepi.
“My goal is to take part in the World Cup with my country this winter, which is why it is even more important that I am able to play regularly After my loan spell I want to return to Augsburg and establish myself in the Bundesliga.”
On the American’s departure, FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter added: “Ricardo Pepi came to us with the request for a loan move, which we can understand, especially with the World Cup coming up soon. We were able to add Mergim Berisha in attack, and are certain that the Dutch league will be a good place for a young player like him. That’s why we were able to grant the request.”
Since his move from MLS side FC Dallas last summer, Pepi, who joined the club for just over €16m, failed to establish himself with the Augsburg squad and although most the majority of his 16 appearances have come from the bench, the 10-time US international is yet to score in 582 minutes.
