How Many Major Trophies Every Premier League Team Has Won in History

Although winning silverware isn’t the be-all and end-all of being a club in the Premier League, it certainly does enhance your reputation. Winning games is, of course, the most important aspect and losing is any players’ worst nightmare.

A string of important victories, however, can lead to a trophy. We’ve seen it over the years when lesser-known sides go on to win a club competition – think ‘the magic of the FA Cup’! Elsewhere, you’ve got the likes of Liverpool where winning is in their DNA.

15 Most Successful English Clubs in Football History by Major Trophies Won

In football, trophies come with bragging rights. But which English club has won the most silverware in history?

Contrary to the Reds, there are teams that have won a major trophy for decades – and that got us thinking. How many major trophies has each club – who are currently plying their trade in England’s top flight – secured since their respective inceptions?

Premier League/First Division; FA Cup; League Cup; European Cup/Champions League; UEFA Cup/Europa League; Cup Winners’ Cup and Europa Conference League have been classified as being a ‘major trophy’.

Never won a trophy

Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Fulham

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. There are a quintet of sides in the Premier League that have never won a major trophy – Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion and the London-based trio of Brentford, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

All five have endured their success in terms of retaining their spot in England’s primary division over the years, but when it comes to lifting silverware – the finest offering of success – they all have zilch to bring to show and tell.

11 Biggest English Clubs to Never Win a Major Trophy [Ranked]

Five current Premier League teams – including Brentford and Bournemouth – are yet to win a major trophy since their respective inceptions.

The Craven Cottage-based outfit have been ever so close to reigning triumph over the years. Narrowly losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the 2009/10 Europa League final, they were also beaten 2-0 by West Ham United in the 1975 FA Cup final.

Ipswich Town, Leicester City, Southampton and West Ham United

Southampton last won a major trophy (their only one, by the way) back in 1976. It was the FA Cup when Bobby Stokes’ strike was the decider between themselves and Manchester United. That’s as deep as the south coast side’s trophy cabinet goes.

Ipswich Town, too, have yo-yo’d between the top flight and the second tier throughout their history – but there are plenty of teams that will be envious of their continental success. The Tractor Boys beat AZ Alkmaar of the Netherlands by an aggregate result of 5–4 in the 1980/81 UEFA Cup final.

West Ham United are the only team in English football to ever win the Europa Conference League. But, before their success in 2022/23, their last major trophy came in the form of the 1979/80 FA Cup final when they beat the holders, Arsenal. A traditional side with plenty of history, the capital club have won five.

As have Leicester City, who spun the minds of football fans by winning the Premier League title in 2015/16. Besides, their major trophy success is quite bleak – they have a trio of League Cups and the solitary FA Cup to their name.

Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers

In 2024/25, are Nottingham Forest showing the world how competitive they can be? They’ve enjoyed a terrific season after battling with relegation a season prior – but let’s not forget the plethora of silverware they’ve picked up over the years.

That includes back-to-back European Cups (now called the Champions League) in 1978/79 and 1979/80 – the crowning period of their storied history. Wolverhampton Wanderers have also won nine major trophies across the years.

Nowadays, the Midlands-based outfit are often embroiled in relegation battles but don’t let that cloud over the fact they’ve won the FA Cup – the oldest competition in football history – on four occasions alongside the First Division on three occasions.

Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur

There is a running joke that Tottenham Hotspur are allergic to trophies – but this list quickly pours water on those claims. Recently, luck has not been on their side (think their Champions League final loss vs Liverpool) but they’ve won the FA Cup on eight occasions. Pre-1992, they also won the First Division twice.

Everton are a club steeped in rich history. Albeit not one of the country’s go-to behemoths, they still have a packed trophy cabinet to smile at. Before it was called the Premier League, the Toffees won the top flight nine times and their current tally stands at 15.

Newcastle United are, without a doubt, one of the best-supported clubs across all divisions in England – and through thick and thin, the St. James’ Park faithful have been in full voice. Their recent League Cup triumph over Liverpool sees them take their tally to 11.

Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester City

All well-established clubs in English football and beyond, Aston Villa have been hugely successful in years gone by. Although they’ve never got their hands on the Premier League, they secured seven First Division titles between 1893/94 and 1980/81.

They’ve also got the same number of FA Cups to their name alongside five League Cup gongs. Chelsea, who have won the Champions League twice – 2011/12 and 2020/21, have won the FA Cup on eight different occasions.

Every British Club to Win the Champions League or European Cup

Nottingham Forest are one of the English clubs that have won the European Cup – winning the competition twice in a row in 1979 and 1980.

Not only that, but the west Londoners have won the Premier League on five occasions during their glory days, while they also have two Europa League trophies in their bloated cabinet. Alas, it seems a lifetime ago when Manchester City were not dominant.

Ever since their Saudi-backed takeover, the Citizens – who made history by winning four Premier Leagues in a row – have been there or thereabouts. They always had the first seven FA Cups and eight League Cups to fall back on – but the club finally won Europe’s top table in 2022/23.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United

Now onto the crème de la crème of English football: the serial winners. Arsenal fans will go out of their way to remind you that they are the only team in Premier League history to go a full season unbeaten – but that’s not where their success ends.

The Gunners – regarded as one of the biggest clubs to never win the Champions League – have 13 league titles, only three of which have arrived since 1992. Alongside that, they are the record winners of the FA Cup (14) and have won the League Cup twice.

Cast your minds back to Sir Alex Ferguson and remember how rampant Manchester United used to be. The winners of the inaugural Premier League, the Red Devils are no longer the dominant force of yesteryear – and their lack of silverware tells the story.
