Everton are on the lookout for more midfield options and Manchester United ace James Garner ‘is an option’ for Goodison Park boss Frank Lampard, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees are on the verge of sealing Idrissa Gueye’s return from Paris Saint-Germain, but further reinforcements could head to Merseyside ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.

What’s the latest news involving Garner?
Romano has revealed that Everton are winning the race for Manchester United central midfielder Garner and there is optimism that they are close to sealing his arrival despite three other clubs also lodging bids.
The 21-year-old only headed back to Old Trafford in the summer, having spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest and won promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs, but it appears his days with the Red Devils are numbered.
It is understood that Everton entered discussions with Manchester United last week, while Southampton, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also known to be admirers.
Red Devils chief Erik ten Hag has reportedly decided Garner should be allowed to leave if the club’s £14million valuation is met ahead of the deadline.
Although the Manchester United academy product’s £20,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2024, a late departure appears to be on the cards.
What has Fabrizio Romano said about Garner?
Romano understands that Everton are interested in luring Garner to Goodison Park, although Southampton are providing stiff competition.
The Italian journalist would not be surprised if a deal is concluded ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.
Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “Yes, they are looking for further midfielders. Garner is an option for Southampton and Everton, both clubs are interested.
“Let’s see what the player and Manchester United will decide in the next 24 hours.”
Why is Garner of interest to Everton?
Manchester United’s stance, along with the fact Garner has not made a single appearance since the new campaign got underway, would suggest that a late deal is certainly doable from Everton’s point of view.
There is no doubt that the seven-cap England under-21 international has plenty of talent and, with him still being in the early stages of his career, Lampard would have the opportunity to mould him into the player he desires.
Garner only missed one Championship fixture following his arrival at Nottingham Forest last season, so it is clear that he played a significant role in their return to the top flight.
He is also capable of being a threat in the final third of the pitch as he has registered 19 goal contributions in 97 senior appearances, which will be an additional attraction for Lampard.
