It has been a lifelong dream of WWE legend CM Punk to headline the company’s biggest annual show, WrestleMania. On Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Chicago native achieved that goal – and it was obvious to see what it meant to him.
‘The Second City Saint’ had previously wrestled on seven WrestleMania cards. He won two Money In The Bank ladder matches, faced The Undertaker, and even defended the WWE Championship. However, he was never granted the headline slot that he truly craved.
His frustration at being overlooked for a main event spot at WrestleMania 29 in 2013 was a major reason why he walked away from the company for close to a decade in 2014. After he returned in 2023, following a turbulent two-year spell with rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling, Punk spoke openly on television about his desire to headline the ‘Show of Shows’.
A triceps injury ultimately ruled him out of WrestleMania 40 last year, but that only served to heighten anticipation for Punk’s WrestleMania 41 match, where he closed out the show in a Triple Threat match that also included Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. In a recent interview with UFC star Daniel Cormier, ‘The Best in the World’ spoke about just how much the match meant to him:
“To me, this is almost like what should have happened in 2011, 2012, 2013. So I feel like I’m fortunate I get a do-over,” he said, per EWrestlingNews. “I try not to build things up too much anymore, and I try not to downplay the important things, because no mistake, this is still very important to me.”
CM Punk’s Spine-Tingling Tribute Video at WrestleMania 41
WWE celebrated Punk’s entire career with the company
Recognising just how significant the moment was to Punk, WWE put together an epic video tribute which played prior to his entrance. Set to his old WWE theme song ‘This Fire Burns’ by Killswitch Engage, the package showed snippets of Punk, both back in 2006 and now, talking about his ‘Straight Edge’ lifestyle.
‘Straight Edge’ means refraining from taking any alcohol or drugs, something which has defined the man from Illinois. The video also included clips of Punk from his OVW days, showcasing the path he has taken to get to where he is today. Highlights of his WWE career were also present, including his Money In The Bank triumphs as well as his subsequent cash-ins to become champion. Punk closed the montage by declaring: My fire has always been burning!”
Living Color played Punk to the ring with their hit song ‘Cult Of Personality’, which he began using in 2021. It was the second time he has had the band play him to the ring at WrestleMania. The first came before his 2013 clash with The Undertaker, but this main event ring walk clearly meant far more to the 46-year-old.

The moment clearly meant a lot to the former WWE Champion
Footage had now emerged of Punk’s four-word reaction as he stood in the middle of the ring for the final match of ‘WrestleMania Saturday’. Emotion was spread all over his face as more than 61,000 fans chanted his name in unison. As they did so, he mouthed:
While the match was a huge moral victory for Punk, he endured a tough night in storyline terms as his ‘best friend’ Paul Heyman turned on him (and Roman Reigns) to help Seth Rollins to victory in the main event. Logic dictates that Punk will likely spend the coming months chasing both Heyman and Rollins for revenge. No matter how the feud progresses from here, though, Punk will always be able to call himself a WrestleMania main eventer.
