Liverpool have registered their interest in a summer move for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, journalist Duncan Castles has revealed.
The Premier League leaders have reportedly ‘asked questions’ about the Dutch international recently as they look to bolster Arne Slot’s squad with new signings after the season.
Simons could leave Leipzig at the end of the campaign, despite joining the German club permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January for an initial £48m.
The 21-year-old is believed to have several suitors across the Premier League, including Manchester United, who are also closely monitoring his situation at Leipzig.
Liverpool Keen on Xavi Simons
‘Everything is set up for a sale this summer’
Castles, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, suggested that all signs point to Simons leaving Leipzig this summer, if the Bundesliga club can convince a top side to match their valuation of the 21-year-old:
“I’m also told that Liverpool have asked questions about the player [Simons], and again, you look at the style of his play, and you could see why he would be a fit to the way Liverpool play.
“So top-level clubs, at least in terms of budget, I don’t think we can call Manchester United a top-level club in terms of performance anymore, and again, summer after summer, Simons is the focus.
“But I think everything is set up for a sale this summer, if they can convince one of those clubs to come in and spend the money that Leipzig want for him.”
Simons has been with Leipzig since the start of last season, when he joined on loan from PSG, and has endured an injury-hit 2024/25 campaign, with an ankle injury sidelining him for two months in October.
The 21-year-old, praised as ‘one of the best 10s in the world’, has made 29 appearances for Leipzig this season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.
He is believed to be on the radar of several top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Man City and Man United.
The Dutchman is under contract in Germany until June 2027 and is among Leipzig’s top earners, earning £165,000 per week.
