Arsenal Fans Praise ‘Unbelievable’ Performance From ‘Monster’ After Real Madrid Win

Arsenal have smashed past Real Madrid and moved onto the Champions League semi-final with a 5-1 win on aggregate. After winning the first leg 3-0, the Gunners expected a much tougher contest on Wednesday night when they arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu, but it was business as usual for Mikel Arteta’s men and they won the second leg 2-1.

The entire team shone against Los Blancos, with Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Myles Lewis-Skelly all getting plenty of plaudits from pundits and fans alike after the fact. They weren’t the only ones who impressed, though, and Arsenal fans have taken to social media to heap praise on Jurrien Timber after his performance against the reigning Champions League winners.

He shone against Los Blancos

Heading into the second leg, Arsenal expected Real Madrid to come out firing and were prepared to play with their backs against the wall for 90 minutes. That wasn’t quite the case, though, and the Gunners dealt with Los Blancos and their attack quite comfortably. Timber in particular did a fantastic job at the back.

He played 89 minutes of the match and aside from a bizarre moment when Vinicius Jr capitalised on a William Saliba mistake to score for Madrid, he handle the Brazilian well and kept him quiet for the most part. Fans were very impressed with what they saw from him and they were quick to heap praise on him on social media.

One fan jumped on X (Twitter) and said: “Timber was a monster tonight,” while another shared that sentiment, posting: “J. Timber, classic proper baller.”

They weren’t the only ones happy with what they saw, though. A third supporter admitted that Timber is lacking in some areas, but thrives defensively and they stated: “Took for granted just how amazing Timber is defensively. Limited in other ways, but defensively he’s unbelievable.”

A couple more fans pointed out the excellent job that he did on Vinicius Jr too, with one posting: “Timber owned Vinicius in both legs,” while another said: “Every time Vinicius Jr closes his eyes, he’s going to see Jurrien Timber. The shutdown performance he has put in over 180 minutes for Arsenal is up there with the very best defensive showings you’ll see. It’s not just his tackling, but his positioning to stop crosses. Elite.”

After missing the majority of his debut season at the Emirates Stadium with injury, Arsenal fans had to wait a while before they truly got to see what Timber could bring to their club, but it was clearly worth the wait.
