Former Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl will take up the same role at RB Leipzig on December 1. As reported exclusively by Sky Germany, the Bundesliga club has reached a total agreement with the 48-year-old, who was Oliver Mintzlaff’s primary candidate for the vacant position at Leipzig.
Leipzig’s initial interest in Eberl was known in July. His mission will be to take the Saxony club to a Bundesliga title and he will be one of the club’s most important decision-makers.
Eberl left his role at Gladbach in January for private reasons, retiring from public life and has travelled the world. After conversations with Mintzlaff, Eberl appears ready to return to work.
Speaking in January in a farewell press conference at Gladbach, Eberl said: “After 23 years, I’m calling time on what has become my life. My work here has always been a joy but there are things in and around the job that are no fun anymore.
“I extended my contract 13 months ago and would never have thought that I’d be sitting here today. I’m somebody who puts 100% into everything I do. I have done that for 13 years as sporting director.”
