Man Utd deal now ‘as good as done’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United are on the verge of announcing their fifth summer signing in Ajax star Antony, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Sheth reckons the Brazilian’s switch to Old Trafford is “as good as done” after he passed a medical in Manchester on Monday.

What’s the latest news involving Antony?

United have been chasing the young winger all summer and finally look to have landed their man.

According to Sky Sports, they will pay the reining Dutch champions £85m for his services, making him their second most expensive signing in history behind Paul Pogba.

After the negotiations gathered pace over the weekend and the fee was agreed, Antony successfully underwent his medical on Monday, with an official announcement expected to come later today.

Antony joins Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro on board at Old Trafford and will be hoping to continue the positive feeling at the club following two recent arrivals, coupled with consecutive victories.

What did Sheth say about Antony?

When asked how close United are to confirming Antony’s arrival, he told GIVEMESPORT: “The Antony one is as good as done now. It’s all been agreed, a 100m Euro deal.

“They could have got him for much cheaper earlier in the window, but because they were pursuing a deal for Frenkie de Jong deal, they let that one go to the backburner and revisited it, so you can’t blame Ajax for not wanting to sell him that late in the transfer window.

“But once the player made big moves to leave the club, Ajax were put in a position where they said, ‘let’s get as much as we can, even if we can’t get a replacement’, although we think they are looking at a return from Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea.”

When could Antony make his Manchester United debut?

Antony’s United bow all hinges on whether the club manage to get his registration completed by the deadline at 12pm on Wednesday.

If Erik ten Hag’s side managed to get their necessary paper work in on time, then Antony could be involved against Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Thursday.

But if United aren’t successful in their attempts to get him signed up, Antony will have to wait another three days before Arsenal visit Old Trafford, where he will get his first glimpse of his new home.
