Arsenal are eyeing a move for this Barcelona defender- The 4th Official

In a recent report, Sport claimed that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet. It is understood that the Gunners will have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Everton in the race to land the French centre-back.

Lenglet’s Sporadic Role In Xavi’s Squad This Season

Lenglet has served as a good squad player at the Nou Camp during this campaign. This season, the 26-year-old has made 27 appearances for Barca, picking up one assist across various competitions.

The Frenchman has seen most of his game time come off the bench based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. However, he has been excellent when distributing the ball from the back after completing 91% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

What Will Lenglet Bring To Arsenal This Summer?

Lenglet can be a rock at the back when he gets regular playing opportunities on the field. He is usually quick to spot the danger and can time his challenges well to earn possession back inside his half.

Lenglet doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when required, but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to settle into life in Premier League football.

Standing at 1.86m, the French talent is a strong presence in the air and can play his way out from the back. Therefore, he could be a decent fit for Mikel Arteta‘s style of play at the Emirates Stadium.

We can expect Lenglet to bring a lot of bite and steel to Arsenal‘s backline and increase competition for places within their squad. At 26, the Frenchman is about to enter his prime and is well-equipped to make an immediate impact at the North London club if Arteta can find a way to get him on board before the start of the new season.

Furthermore, Lenglet could help Arsenal secure a top-four spot in the Premier League next season as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
