Adi Hütter wants to put an end to the chopping and changing of goalkeepers at AS Monaco. Last season, Radoslaw Majecki came in for Philipp Köhn, who, following his move from Austria at the start of that campaign, failed to impress.
However, the Poland international has himself struggled for form this season and following an error against Toulouse FC, which cost Monaco two points, at the start of March, Köhn was re-instated. However, the Swiss goalkeeper was at fault for both goals as Monaco lost 2-1 to Stade Brestois (2-1) at the weekend.
The question of who would be between the sticks against Olympique de Marseille on Saturday was therefore a pertinent one. In a press conference attended by Get French Football News, Hütter was definitive. “We won’t change [goalkeeper]. It makes no sense to change every two games. We win and lose games together,” said the Austrian.
He added, “There is no need to make it a bigger topic. All four goalkeepers trained well this week, and I didn’t feel that Philipp wasn’t focused. This is the decision. From what I can see, he is ready and the mistake is out of his head.” Köhn will therefore keep his place against Marseille and perhaps until the end of the season, judging by Hütter’s comments.
