Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has on Sunday evening secured for himself a fresh piece of Spanish football history.
This comes owing to his appearance in the club’s latest outing.
Atlético are of course currently locked in action, in a crunch La Liga showdown with Hansi Flick’s high-flying Barcelona.
Griezmann, as expected, was afforded a starting berth by boss Diego Simeone, joining Julián Alvarez in a star-studded frontline for the evening’s hosts.
And, as a result, the Frenchman has etched his name ever further into the history books.
Tonight’s marks Griezmann’s 520th La Liga appearance, spread across the frontman’s spells between Atlético, Barcelona, and Real Sociedad.
This is the same number as managed by Barcelona icon Lionel Messi during his iconic stint in Spain.
And, as revealed by statisticians Opta, Griezmann has therefore joined his former teammate as the foreign player with the most appearances in the history of La Liga.
