Bayern Munich want to extend the contract of Lucas Hernández beyond 2024, according to Sky Germany. First talks between both parties have already taken place and further discussions are planned.
Hernández can imagine signing a new long-term extension. Following the departures of David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, the Frenchman has become an integral defensive player in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad, stepping up into a leadership role and partnering compatriot Dayot Upamecano.
The 26-year-old joined Bayern Munich from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for a club record €80m and has played 99 games across all competitions for the Bundesliga club.
After a difficult start to his career at Bayern Munich, Hernández received criticism but has responded well. Speaking in 2020, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić said: “It is unfortunate that he didn’t get off to a good start with us due to injury, but these things happen.”
Bayern Munich play Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday evening.
