Paris Saint-Germain face an uphill task. Luis Enrique’s men head to Anfield with a one-goal deficit to overturn. PSG dominated the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at the Parc des Princes last week but could not make that reflect in the scoreline.
They came up against an inspired Alisson, who made nine saves on the night in what he said was perhaps the best game of his career before Harvey Elliott, against the run of play, netted a late winner for Liverpool. It means that the runaway Premier League leaders have an advantage to protect at Anfield tonight.
However, one of PSG’s former defenders, Maxwell, backs Les Parisiens to potentially go on and win the whole competition. “Of course, PSG can qualify. I don’t see any reason that they can’t go through,” he told L’Équipe.
He added, “If they are capable of beating Liverpool, they are capable of beating anyone and therefore capable of winning the Champions League. It is all open.”
PSG reached the semi-finals of last year’s edition of the Champions League, coming unstuck against Borussia Dortmund. Following a difficult start to this season’s edition, Luis Enrique’s men, prior to the defeat to Liverpool, had won their previous four, netting 18 goals in the process. PSG are also unbeaten in domestic competitions this season.
