Everton unwilling to sell experienced goalkeeper amid Manchester United interest

Everton are unwilling to sell Asmir Begovic in this transfer window, according to reports.

The 35-year-old joined the Toffees last summer from AFC Bournemouth to serve as a backup to Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park.

However, he has now sparked a transfer interest from Manchester United who are reportedly keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are looking to add another goalkeeper after Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan earlier this summer.

The Premier League giants believe Begovic to be a good fit to their needs. However, as per talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Everton have refused to sell the Bosnia and Herzegovina international with only days remaining of the transfer window.

Right decision

Pickford was one of the standout performers for the Blues last season. He played a key role in helping his side avoid relegation to the Championship,

With the England international in such good form, Begovic obviously didn’t get a lot of opportunities at the Merseyside club last term.

However, the 35-year-old impressed with his performances in the few matches that he played. He made seven appearances across all competitions last campaign, with two clean sheets to his name.

Everton have made the right decision to keep the experienced shot-stopper at the club.

With only a few days left in the transfer window, they are unlikely to find a good replacement who will also be willing to take a backup role.

Begovic has played a similar role during his short stints at Chelsea and AC Milan, while he has also spent lengthy spells at Stoke City and Bournemouth. So he boasts plenty of experience.
