Sport Bild claims to know why Cristiano Ronaldo would have liked to join Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund ultimately decided against signing the Portuguese superstar from Manchester United, much to the disappointment of the 37-year-old, who apparently had plenty of reasons for wanting to join ‘Die Schwarzgelben’.
Per the report, the main reason was the participation in the Champions League. Playing in the Champions League is not only important for Ronaldo from a sporting point of view, but also in terms of his brand and sponsorship deals.
Secondly, having already secured a place in the history books in England, Spain and Italy, Ronaldo would have liked to do the same in Germany.
In addition, the 37-year-old was attracted by the prospect of playing in front of 80.000 fans at Signal Iduna Park.
At the end of the day, however, the move didn’t happen, and it now remains to be seen if Ronaldo leaves Manchester United before the transfer window closes. Having also been turned down by Bayern München, his career will certainly not continue in Germany.
