Bayer Leverkusen dominated Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Bayern Munich, but were held to a 0-0 draw by their title rivals.
Speaking to Sky Germany after the game, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso was proud of his side’s performance.
“All the players played at a high level. Bayern are very strong this season. They usually break down their opponents early and constantly, but that wasn’t the case today. Our identity was strong and we’re very proud of our performance,” he said.
The draw means that Leverkusen remain eight points behind Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table.
“If you look at the table, it’s enough at the moment, but we think it was a really good performance,” Xabi Alonso said.
“We said before the game that we needed a perfect performance and it was almost perfect. That’s not easy against Bayern.”
