Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to join PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool miss out

Paris Saint-Germain have secured the signature of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli in a major transfer coup, leaving Chelsea and Liverpool to rue a missed opportunity. The French champions finalised the deal today, adding another exciting attacker to their arsenal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee for the Georgian winger will exceed €70 million, a modest fee for the Parisian club.

Kvaratskhelia is widely regarded as one of the most exciting wingers in European football after spearheading Napoli to their third Serie A title in 2022/23 alongside Victor Osimhen.

The 22-year-old has committed to a five-year contract with PSG, tying him to the Parc des Princes until 2030.

This move had been in the works for some time. He was linked with the club last summer amid discussions with Napoli over a renewal. He did not move, but he never signed that new deal, allowing PSG to pounce.

For Chelsea and Liverpool, the news will come as a bitter disappointment. Both Premier League giants had been linked with the Napoli star.

The Blues have been without Mykhailo Mudryk for weeks, relying solely on Jadon Sancho to cover the left flank. They need reinforcement, and Kvaratskhelia fits the bill.

Liverpool also wanted the elusive winger, with the club consistently dealing with rumours about Luis Diaz.

Despite their interest, PSG’s financial muscle and project proved too compelling to resist for Kvaratskhelia.

The arrival of Kvaratskhelia adds depth and flair to PSG’s attack, potentially forming a lethal partnership with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Lee Kang-in, and Bradley Barcola. There is also Xavi Simons on loan.

If Liverpool and Chelsea are desperate to compensate for missing out on Kvaratskhelia, Barcola is there for the taking. The fleet-footed winger has ten Ligue 1 goals this season but has reportedly fallen out of favour with manager Luis Enrique. He would be a brilliant pick-up for either Premier League club.
