It isn’t often that Pep Guardiola doesn’t get his own way, but the Man City manager may be forced to accept that a player he’s believed to have coveted for some while could move elsewhere.
That’s because, according to CaughtOffside sources, there’s a very real chance that local rivals, Manchester United, could muscle in on any deal for 21-year-old Dutch midfielder, Xavi Simons.
Pep Guardiola could lose out on Xavi Simons
The Red Devils are preparing to clear the decks as the Ruben Amorim revolution continues.
The youngster is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, but isn’t expected to stay at either his parent club or loan club beyond the current campaign.
A series of stunning performances has kept the former Barcelona academy graduate front and centre, and indeed, sources have also advanced that the Catalans might be keen on taking back a player that starred at La Masia before he left for Paris.
Arsenal are one of a slew of other clubs that have thrown their hat into the ring and, like Barca and Man City, their style of play is one that the player would seamlessly fit into.

Liverpool, Inter, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are also lurking in the background and waiting to see if there are any further developments.
The Reds would seem to be at a disadvantage given that it’s also been reported that Jurgen Klopp could block any sale of Simons to his former club.
The player’s creativity and game intelligence allied to his world-class ability in choosing the right pass as well as weighing in with his fair share of goals and assists (three in seven appearances this season according to transfermarkt), is behind the interest of the teams mentioned. Not to mention his top level experience at such a young age.
With so many options to choose from Simons clearly will have his pick of clubs, though as sources have indicated, the project at Man United under Ruben Amorim appears to intrigue.
