La Liga club Girona are in talks with Southampton for midfielder Oriol Romeu, who has a contract with the Premier League club until June 2023, according to journalist Nil Sola.
The current salary of Romeu is much higher than what can be offered by newly-promoted Girona and is the main obstacle in the deal, as things stand.
Girona manager Míchel is believed to be very keen on signing the 30-year-old midfielder. Romeu was on the bench for Southampton’s 2-2 draw with Leeds at the weekend.
The Catalan side’s first game of the new season ended in a 1-0 defeat to Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday.
