10 players will miss this week’s Premier League action. In the gameweek before the international break, Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada was sent off for violent conduct. The Japanese star, who has had a tough start to life in south London, flew in high on Kenny Tete, giving referee Michael Salisbury no option but to give him his marching orders. He will miss the upcoming encounters against Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Ipswich Town, before returning for the daunting prospect of Manchester City at home.

Meanwhile, six players will miss just one match for picking up their fifth yellow card of the season. Southampton trio Tyler Dibling, Flynn Downes and Taylor Harwood-Bellis were all booked during their 1-1 draw with Brighton, whilst Manchester United pair Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo suffered the same fate during their 4-0 win against Everton. Sasa Lukic was booked for Fulham away to Tottenham, whilst Wolves right-back Nelson Semedo was also suspended due to his yellow card during their defeat to Bournemouth. They will all return at the weekend.

Fulham picked up a valiant 1-1 draw away to Tottenham on Sunday, but they had to play the final few minutes without Tom Cairney. The substitute was in the thick of the action, first curling a stunning left-footed effort beyond the grasp of Fraser Forster 13 minutes after Spurs took the lead through Brennan Johnson. With seven minutes remaining, however, Cairney was sent off for a foul on Dejan Kulusevski, which was upgraded from a yellow to a red by referee Darren Bond following a VAR review. He will now miss three matches, seeing him eventually return on the 22nd December when they host Southampton.

Finally, the most high-profile news in the international break came as Rodrigo Bentancur was banned for seven domestic matches by the FA. Bentancur, who has also been fined £100,000 and ordered to take part in a mandatory face-to-face education programme, said a racial slur aimed towards teammate Heung-min Son and Asians. He will miss Spurs’ next seven domestic matches, which include clashes against Man City this weekend and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. The Lilywhites have appealed the length of the ban, but even then, the most likely outcome is that it will be reduced by one match, which would see him available for their home game against Liverpool.

Players at Risk of Suspension

Five yellow cards in the first half of the season will result in a one-match ban

Premier League trophy

If a player is shown five yellow cards before the 19th gameweek of the campaign – the halfway mark – they pick up an automatic one-match ban. This can’t be appealed. If 10 yellow cards are picked up before the 33rd match of the season, a player will be banned for a further two games. Typically, some fans think that yellow cards do not have any impact if they avoid being sent off, but it can create long-term problems for clubs. A glut of players are already at risk of earning a suspension for accumulation before it resets halfway through the campaign.

Players Back From Suspension

Kudus is finally set to return

MixCollage-07-Nov-2024-05-32-PM-9513

Mohamed Kudus is finally back available for West Ham after serving a lengthy five-game ban. The former Ajax winger was sent off in the latter stages of their London derby against Tottenham on the 19th October. He received a three-match ban for violent conduct, but that was later extended by a further two matches.

The West Ham winger pushed Micky van de Ven, which prompted the initial yellow card to be upgraded to red. He also then proceeded to push the face of Pape Matar Sarr during a frantic head-loss. It was a moment of chaos from the winger, as he was also fined £60,000 as well.

A statement from the FA said: “It was also alleged that Mohammed Kudus acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence that he was sent off for. The forward admitted to this charge, and he has been given a two-match suspension and £60,000 fine by the Regulatory Commission.” He is the only player returning for the midweek fixtures.
