RB Leipzig have today confirmed that sporting director Rouven Schröder has left the club with immediate effect, swapping the Saxony club for Red Bull Salzburg.
As reported by kicker, Schröder’s departure has nothing to do with Leipzig’s recent performances. The Bundesliga side currently find themselves fourth, nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich and after an unbeaten start to the current campaign, are winless in their last four league games – their latest defeat a 5-1 thrashing against Wolfsburg.
Schröder – who has an excellent reputation in Germany for unearthing talent during his time at Mainz – has signed a contract until December 2028 with RB Salzburg, who themselves are under-performing with Pep Lijnders side currently sixth in the Austrian Bundesliga, 14 points behind leaders and current champions Sturm Graz.
At Salzburg, Schröder will work alongside current sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner, who will soon return to the academy. “I want to do everything I can together with everyone here to ensure that the trend is reversed as soon as possible,” said Schröder.
