Watford FC has rejected a bid of £20 million from Newcastle United for Joao Pedro, according to Sky Sports.
The Hertfordshire club insists the 20-year-old is not for sale at any price. It is unclear if Newcastle will return with an improved offer.
Emmanuel Dennis has joined Nottingham Forest while Leeds United is closing in on a deal for Ismaila Sarr. Watford doesn’t want to lose Pedro too.
The Hornets are fighting for promotion back to the Premier League, and losing their three key players will not help their efforts.
Pedro joined Watford from Fluminense in 2020. He would score nine goals and assist two more to help the club gain promotion from the English Football League Championship.
Pedro would struggle in his first season in the Premier League. He was in and out of the starting XI. Pedro also had to deal with personal tragedy as his father passed away.
He scored only three goals and missed six big chances.
The Hornets were relegated back to the Championship, but Newcastle has seen his raw talent and wants to sign him.
Pedro is fleet-footed and can play anywhere across the forward line. His dribbling ability and pace can help him play on the wings. His aerial strength and linkup play allows him to function as a striker.
He likes to roam and create.
Pedro is already showing how important he can be for Rob Edwards and his team this season.
He scored the only goal of the game and was voted the man-of-the-match as Watford defeated Sheffield United at Vicarage Road.
Pedro was electric against West Bromwich Albion in the next game. He had a quiet outing against Burnley, but it was because of the extra attention he received from The Clarets.
Newcastle will have to cough up a bigger amount to convince Watford to sell. The Magpies are not sitting to lick their transfer wounds.
They are keen on Chelsea FC duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Conor Gallagher.
