Paris Saint-Germain reportedly fended off interest in Marquinhos (30) last summer. They may have to do so once again next summer, as per a report from L’Équipe.
Multiple Saudi clubs made attempts to sign the defender in the summer, as per reports from Sports Zone, but PSG pushed back against those advances. Marquinhos, Les Parisiens’ most-capped player of all time, was also against a departure from the Parc des Princes stating a desire to continue with PSG, a desire evidenced by his contract extension earlier this year, which ties him to the club until 2028.
A year on, will the Brazil international’s stance remain the same? That remains to be seen. Marquinhos, the club captain, remains a mainstay in this side, however, L’Équipe understands that Saudi Arabian clubs will return to the fore next summer and once again try to prise away the centre-back.
PSG may, in anticipation of this approach, already be preparing for the future. L’Équipe understands that the reigning Ligue 1 champions will be in the market for a young right-footed centre-back this January as the club look to put a succession plan into action.
