Ligue 2 side Girondins de Bordeaux have accepted a €4 million plus €1m in bonuses bid from Nottingham Forest for their striker Hwang Ui-Jo, according to L’equipe.
Forest are not alone in the race for the South Korean forward. Wolverhampton Wanderers have already seen a bid of €3m deemed insufficient by Bordeaux.
Fulham have also registered an interest in the player but are yet to tender an official offer.
Forest look to have won the race to sign the striker unless the chasing clubs match their already accepted offer.
They would now focus on agreeing on personal terms to close the deal and avoid complications.
The 29-year-old has only one year left on his contract with Bordeaux and has so far dismissed proposals from French sides Stade Brestois 29 and FC Nantes as he wants to play in the Premier League.
Bordeaux suffered relegation last season after finishing bottom of the pile in Ligue 1 and narrowly avoided further relegation due to financial irregularities.
Les Girondins are looking to raise funds through player sales to allow them to register any new signings, following financial restrictions imposed by the French football federation.
The South Korea international joined Bordeaux in 2019 and has recorded 29 goals and seven assists in 97 appearances across all competitions.
The striker hit double figures for Les Girondins last season, netting 11 times in the Ligue 1 and Steve Cooper’s side are determined to bring his firepower to the Premier League.
Forest are looking to continue their spending spree with the acquisition of a new striker. They have brought in twelve players and are close to making Ui-Jo the thirteenth summer signing.
The Reds still want to bring in a new left-back to cover for the injured Omar Richards and have identified Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri as a potential target.
They also want a new midfielder and have made Morgan Gibbs-White their priority target for the position.
However, Wolves are playing hardball and have knocked back three bids for the 22-year-old as they remain desperate to hang on to their academy graduate.
