Montpellier HSC have officially announced that Jean-Louis Gasset has become their next manager after Michel Der Zakarian was fired on Sunday evening.
Der Zakarian’s time in charge of Montpellier was brought to an end following the 5-0 capitulation at home to Olympique de Marseille. It was a decision that the club president, Laurent Nicollin, announced live on air kickstarting the search for a new manager.
This search has ended today with the club able to convince Gasset to return to the professional game after he announced his retirement at the end of the 2023/24 campaign when he had taken charge of Olympique de Marseille as their interim head coach.
Jean-Louis Gasset tasked with rescuing bottom-placed Montpellier
Gasset’s first game in La Paillade’s hot seat will see the club host southern rivals Toulouse FC. Montpellier will hope the appointment of the experienced head will guide the club out of the relegation zone after they have conceded 26 goals in eight games.
Gasset will be joined by his assistant Ghislain Printant, with Vitorino Hilton and his son Robin Gasset also adding to the backroom staff.
