Montpellier’s Michel Der Zakarian dismissed following 5-0 home loss against Marseille

Montpellier head coach Michel Der Zakarian has been relieved of his duties following La Paillade‘s 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Marseille. Montpellier are sitting bottom of the Ligue 1 standings and have conceded a whopping tally of 26 goals in 8 games. Montpellier are leaking an average of 3.25 goals per Ligue 1 game. On Sunday, they leaked five with Elye Wahi, Amine Harit, Pierre-Emile Hojbjberg, Luis Henrique and Mason Greenwood all finding the back of the net.

Speaking to DAZN France in the aftermath of another defeat, Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin has taken the extraordinary step to announce the sacking of Der Zakarian live on the air. “We can’t change 25 players so, unfortunately, I’ve taken the initiative to stop Michel tonight. We talked in the locker room after the game. I told him it was over tonight. And I said to the players that, thanks to their great job, they had fired the coach and that they need to take their responsibilities next week against Toulouse.”
