VfL Bochum have confirmed the signing of Dominique Heintz from Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin.
The 28-year-old central defender has signed a one-year loan deal with ‘Die Unabsteigbaren.
“Dominique Heintz is a Bundesliga player with quality. He will strengthen our central defense, and as a left-footed player he fits the requirement profile exactly: experienced at Bundesliga level, tall, robust, strong in one-on-one situations, a leader,” said Bochum managing director for sport Sebastian Schindzielorz.
“Dominique knows the challenges that the team faces and he is ready to face them and go forward. He is in training rhythm, so the acclimation period will be as smooth as possible.”
Heintz added:
“I am very happy that the move to VfL has worked out. Bochum have made an intensive effort to get me, and I hope that I can do my part to help VfL stay in the Bundesliga. I know the fight to stay in the division from my previous clubs – in Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Freiburg and also at Union that has often enough been the goal of the season.
“VfL is a club with a lot of tradition, the stadium in the middle of the city, nice and close, with a good atmosphere and enthusiastic fans – that’s what I like. The last time I wore a blue and white jersey was at my hometown club SV Herta Kirrweiler, which was a while ago.”
