Everton turn attention to Mohamed Camara after hitting an impasse in negotiations for Gueye

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara.

The Toffees wanted to bring Idrissa Gana Gueye back to Goodison Park but they have not been able to reach an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, Frank Lampard’s side have now turned their attention to Camara who is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders across Europe.

It is said that Leeds United and Newcastle United have made enquiries about the 22-year-old in recent months but the Austrian side were not interested.

However, in a boost to the Merseyside club, Camara is said to be open to come to Goodison.

Good decision

Gueye was a huge fan favourite when he was at Everton between 2016 and 2019. He made 108 appearances across all competitions at the Premier League club, bagging four goals and five assists (stats from Transfermarkt).

The Senegalese footballer was a regular at the Blues who made a huge profit when they sold him to PSG in 2019 for an incredible £30 million. However, Gueye is unlikely to make the same impact now as he will turn 33 next month.

Meanwhile, Camara is very young and has proven his abilities in the Austrian Bundesliga. He joined RB Salzburg in 2018 and has since made 76 appearances across all competitions at the Red Bull Arena.

He is not the biggest in terms of stature but is highly rated for his tackling and pressing ability. The 22-year-old also boasts a great speed and athleticism, something the Toffees really need in their midfield.
