Borussia Dortmund have announced that former sporting director Michael Zorc could return to the club as a member of the supervisory board.
Two members of the current supervisory board have decided to retire, so will not be up for re-election. Zorc will be up for election to the board in November when Dortmund hold their annual general assembly.
Zorc is Dortmund through and through. The former midfielder was born in the city and joined the club’s youth academy in 1978, he would then go on to make 572 appearances for the club winning the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League, whilst also making himself the club’s all-time top scorer. Zorc retired from football in 1998 and immediately moved into a director role at the club.
From 1998 to 2005, Zorc was Dortmund’s director of football before then becoming their sporting director until 2022 when he was replaced by Sebastian Kehl.
Since retiring from Dortmund in 2022, Zorc has been a member of the supervisory board of Dortmund-based company adesso SE.
