As first reported by Relevo and confirmed by Le Parisien, former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico (31) is nearing a move to Qatari side Al-Gharafa.
Rico suffered a near-fatal horse-riding incident back in May 2023, however, after being placed in an induced coma, he recovered to the point of nearing a return to football at the end of last season. However, after having been given the green light by doctors to return, he did not make another appearance for PSG before the expiry of his contract at the end of last season.
He is now set to find a new club. Le Parisien understands that the Spaniard, currently back in his native Andalucia, is in advanced negotiations to join Al-Gharafa, who are currently fourth in the Qatari top flight. He is expected to fly to Doha in the coming hours in order to complete the transfer.
Rico has not played a professional match since May 2022, with that appearance coming during a loan spell at La Liga side Mallorca.
