Troy Deeney has named his first Premier League team of the week, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City dominating the first line up of the new season.
Former Watford man Deeney has replaced Garth Crooks as the pundit choosing the team of the week for BBC Sport, and it’s a strong start from him as star names such as Kai Havertz, Mohamed Salah and Mateo Kovacic make up the team.
There are also other familiar faces such as England stars Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Maguire, while Aston Villa’s new signing Amadou Onana also made it in after an impressive showing on the opening weekend…

It’s also interesting to see Deeney keeping up the Crooks tradition of using players in slightly unusual roles, with Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma operating as a number ten instead of out wide, while Dan Burn is at left-back despite playing as a centre-back for Newcastle at the weekend.
Overall, though, it’s hard to argue with the team selection here as it certainly felt like the likes of Salah and Saka were the stand-out performers from the first round of Premier League games.
