Marseille will return to Eddie Nketiah if Elye Wahi deal falls through

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Olympique de Marseille will return to their previous transfer target of Eddie Nketiah (25) if they cannot secure a deal with RC Lens for Elye Wahi (21). Foot Mercato earlier reported that discussions had reopened between the two clubs and that their positions had never been closer. However, an agreement has still not been reached.

Marseille are becoming increasingly desperate to secure a deal for a new striker with less than a week to go before the start of the new campaign. It had been a priority for the club following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35) to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah. If the deal with Lens falls through today, then the club will likely return to Arsenal where they will hope to sign Nketiah.

Hawkins writes that Arsenal are currently asking for €25 million for their forward (a significant decrease from their earlier position of €35 million). This fee would be similar to what Marseille’s previous rejected offer for Wahi had been (a paid loan with an option to buy totalling €26 million).
