Girona have already lost the likes of Artem Dovbyk, Aleix Garcia and Savio from last season’s squad that qualified for the Champions League, and a significant squad overhaul has taken place as a result. More departures could be on the way, if reports are to be believed.
West Ham tried to sign Garcia before he opted for Bayer Leverkusen, and they’ve now returned to the bidding for another Girona star: Arnau Martinez. MD say that contact has already taken place between The Hammers and the young defender’s representatives, with an opening offer – fee unknown – having also been sent to the Catalan club.
Girona could be in a tricky situation with Arnau. His contract ends in 2025, and he’s coming off a season where he was of little importance to head coach Michel Sanchez. He’s likely to be a starter for West Ham if he were to make the move to London – something that is not guaranteed at Montilivi.
For now, Arnau continues to give priority to Girona, who are yet to open contract talks with the 21-year-old. However, if there’s no progress in the coming weeks, a way out could end up being sought.
