Everton are reportedly trying to hijack West Ham United’s move for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports.
The 20-year-old joined the French outfit last summer on a five-year deal and has since made 41 appearances across all competitions at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
He looked set to be moving to West Ham after Les Dogues accepted their £33.5 million offer.
However, Everton have matched that bid for the Belgian star who also prefers a move to Goodison Park, as per Sacha Tavolieri.
The Toffees are also reportedly offering better personal terms to the midfielder.
Big blow for West Ham
Onana is a highly talented player who proved his abilities in Ligue 1 last season. He was a regular for Lille last term, making 32 league appearances and scoring a goal.
The Belgium international plays as a defensive midfielder who is known for his tackling, aerial duels and through balls.
He averaged 1.5 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 0.6 clearances per game in the French league last season (as per WhoScored).
Onana is only 20-years-old, so there is plenty of room to improve his game.
West Ham have already signed Flynn Downes from Swansea City but Mark Noble’s retirement and the return of Alex Kral to Spartak Moscow means there is still need for reinforcements.
It is a big blow for the Hammers that Onana would rather join Everton. It remains to be seen whether The Hammers come up with a better offer to secure his services.
