According to a report by Sports Zone, Arsenal have found an agreement with Mikel Merino (28) over a four-year deal. The Gunners are now set to talk with Real Sociedad to try to seal the deal, but the French outlet adds that Mikel Arteta’s side isn’t willing to break the bank for the Spanish international.
After Ricardo Calafiori, Arsenal are working hard to register their second arrival of the summer, and it could be another Euro 2024 hero. Coming off an outstanding season at Real Sociedad, Merino became a national hero following his stunning header at the 119th of Spain’s quarterfinals against Germany to qualify La Roja for the semifinals, where they beat France before taking the best over England in the final. Despite starting only one game, against Albania, during the Euro, Merino managed to prove his worth and gathered interest from Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their midfield amid Thomas Partey’s likely departure.
Arsenal’s negotiations to sign the left-footed midfielder are going in the right direction, according to Sports Zone. The former Newcastle player has found an agreement on personal terms with the Gunners, and is now waiting for Real Sociedad and Arsenal to reach a total agreement. The Spanish outfit’s asking fee will be determinant in the progression of the deal, as Arsenal aren’t willing to spend all of their budget on the midfielder.
