As reported via Bild, Real Madrid are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck.
It is understood that Madrid’s chief scout, Juni Calafat, has already begun looking into the possibility of luring the German defender away from the Westfalenstadion.
However, Die Schwarzgelben are not interested in selling Schlotterbeck this summer. Nuri Şahin considers the 24-year-old to be a key player for BvB and is expected to emphasise this next season, making Schlotterbeck a permanent fixture in Dortmund’s backline.
Nevertheless, BvB are aware that, after an impressive second half of the campaign, Europe’s elite clubs are interested in Schlotterbeck’s signature. Having starred alongside Mats Hummels under Edin Terzić, the 24-year-old played a pivotal role in helping guide Dortmund to the Champions League final.
In addition to this, the German international is the only left-footed centre-back at the Westfalenstadion. With Niklas Süle and new signing Waldemar Anton both being right-footed, it is believed that they will go head-to-head next season for a spot next to Schlotterbeck in Şahin’s defence.
