Olympique Marseille targeting swoop for Alexis Sanchez

Olympique Marseille are interested in acquiring the services of Alexis Sanchez this summer, according to French outlet La Provence.

However, the report adds that while Marseille’s president Pablo Longoria has been in contact with Sanchez’s entourage, a deal can only be done if the Chilean manages to terminate his existing contract with Inter Milan which runs until 2023.

Sanchez has fallen down the Nerazzurri pecking order and is widely expected to leave the club this summer having failed to feature in any of his side’s warm-up friendlies against Lugano, Monaco and Lens

As seen in the case of Arturo Vidal, Inter are trying to offload some high earners off their wage bill which could see Sanchez become the next departure from the Serie A giants.

A move to Ligue 1 is now on the cards for Sanchez who has the opportunity to join an exclusive list of active footballers to have featured in four of Europe’s top five leagues following his previous spells at Barcelona and Arsenal prior to the switch to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Marseille finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain last time out and Les Phoceens’ appearance in the upcoming edition of the Champions League is sure to aid their pursuit of a player of Sanchez’s calibre.

Having already completed the signing of ex-Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, Igor Tudor’s men are also plotting moves for the Arsenal duo of William Saliba and Nuno Tavares as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Saliba has emerged as a transfer target for Marseille after spending the just-concluded season on loan at the Stade Velodrome where he won the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year Award, while Tavares is in search of more playing minutes with his place in the Arsenal team now under further threat by the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.
