RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer could start against Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup on Saturday despite interest from the Bundesliga champions. For now, the Austrian midfielder is a Leipzig player but head coach Domenico Tedesco stated in his pre-match press conference that the player wants clarity on his future.
“Konny is our player and I’m happy that he’s our player,” said Tedesco. “As long as that’s the case, he has my full support. Time speaks for us, although there’s no deadline. He also wants clarity.”
When asked if Laimer will play on Saturday despite interest from Bayern Munich, Tedesco added: “I’m not thinking about that. Konny is focused and training intensively. He has a strong character and is an important player for us with the right mentality. There’s no problem.”
Leipzig rejected Bayern Munich’s second offer of €23m including bonuses for Laimer, who has a contract until 2023. RBL value Laimer closer to €30m and if Bayern fail to find an agreement, Leipzig would be open to allowing the 25-year-old to leave on a free transfer next summer.
